STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT APPOINTS NEW

INTERIM DIRECTOR OF POLITICAL ACTION

YPSILANTI, MI- Eastern Michigan University Student Body President Adam Slingwein has appointed Regina Royan to interim director of political action. Regina Royan, a junior from Howell, MI, was been chosen from a pool of four applicants and will replace former interim director Dusten Retcher who has left the University to join the armed forces.

Student Body President Adam Slingwein is confident in his choice. “Regina was chosen because she is passionate for the job, has done great work for the committee in the past, and has the connections that are needed for the position,” explained Student Body President Adam Slingwein. His summer appointment will still need to be approved by the Student Senate once they are in session in September.

Regina Royan has been involved with Student Government since 2005. She has obtained Senior Ranking in the Student Senate and was once vice-chair of the political action committee. During the last General Elections of the Student Body, Regina ran for Student Body President and came in a very close second. Prior to becoming the interim director of political action, she was the interim director of organizational relations – a position that acts as a liaison from the student organizations to Student Government.

The Director of Political Action, a position held by former Student Body President Greg Jones and current Vice President Robert Kull, heads the Student Senate Political Action Committee. The Student Senate Political Action Committee works to educate legislators and other elected officials about the needs of the Student Body, as well as educating the Student Body on the importance of active participation in the political processes.

Regina Royan is expected to be confirmed as the Director of Political Action at the September 9, 2008 Student Senate meeting held in the First Year Center beginning at 6:30pm. Regina will be out of the country for until August 24, when she’ll begin her duties as the interim director. Regina can be reached via e-mail at mroyan@emich.edu.


30 July 2008 Board of Regents Meeting

The Board of Regents will be meeting Thursday 31 July 2008. There will be no committee meetings for this Board meeting. The Board will meet at 10:15am in 201 Welch Hall. Items on the agenda for the Board include room and board rates, the university budgets, and tuition rates. All are welcome to attend the meeting. EMUSG Press Relase – 7/8/08 PAC Resignation

YPSILANTI- Interim Director of Political Action and former Student Senator Dusten Retcher, a sophomore from Ohio, has resigned his position and has left the University to serve in our nation’s armed forces. Eastern Michigan University Student Government would like to thank Mr. Retcher for the excellent service to the Student Body. Student Government would also like wish Mr. Retcher good luck in his future endeavors.

Due to this resignation, Student Body President Adam Slingwein has reopened the application process for the position of Student Government Political Action Director. Applications can be picked up at the Student Government Office, Student Center Room 342. Completed applications must be returned to the Student Government Office. Student Government will be accepted applications as early as July 8, 2008. No applications will be accepted later than July 22, 2008. Interviews for the position will take place after July 22, 2008.

In order to qualify, the applicant must be a student at Eastern Michigan University in good academic and judicial standing. The position entails running committee meetings, reporting to the Student Senate and the Student Body President, and working with local, state, and national politicians in order to educate them on the needs of Eastern Michigan University.
