FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE
STUDENT BODY PRESIDENT APPOINTS NEW
INTERIM DIRECTOR OF POLITICAL ACTION
YPSILANTI, MI- Eastern Michigan University Student Body President Adam Slingwein has appointed Regina Royan to interim director of political action. Regina Royan, a junior from Howell, MI, was been chosen from a pool of four applicants and will replace former interim director Dusten Retcher who has left the University to join the armed forces.
Student Body President Adam Slingwein is confident in his choice. “Regina was chosen because she is passionate for the job, has done great work for the committee in the past, and has the connections that are needed for the position,” explained Student Body President Adam Slingwein. His summer appointment will still need to be approved by the Student Senate once they are in session in September.
Regina Royan has been involved with Student Government since 2005. She has obtained Senior Ranking in the Student Senate and was once vice-chair of the political action committee. During the last General Elections of the Student Body, Regina ran for Student Body President and came in a very close second. Prior to becoming the interim director of political action, she was the interim director of organizational relations – a position that acts as a liaison from the student organizations to Student Government.
The Director of Political Action, a position held by former Student Body President Greg Jones and current Vice President Robert Kull, heads the Student Senate Political Action Committee. The Student Senate Political Action Committee works to educate legislators and other elected officials about the needs of the Student Body, as well as educating the Student Body on the importance of active participation in the political processes.
Regina Royan is expected to be confirmed as the Director of Political Action at the September 9, 2008 Student Senate meeting held in the First Year Center beginning at 6:30pm. Regina will be out of the country for until August 24, when she’ll begin her duties as the interim director. Regina can be reached via e-mail at mroyan@emich.edu.
